Samaritans is a very cost-effective organization. We raise
our annual operating budget of just under $1,000,000 primarily from
private sources and the United Way, with only $25,000 coming from governmental sources. In addition, we leverage the
money we raise by obtaining an additional $1,000,000 annually in inkind
support in the form of volunteer hours, as well as donated services
(for instance this website was developed by a volunteer web designer).
Samaritans’ volunteers field 80,000 calls each year from isolated
and lonely individuals with an average cost of only $6.50 per call.
We work hard to ensure that the money we raise is put to the best
possible use to help individuals in need.
With more and more people struggling
financially and emotionally, we feel that it is more important than
ever to make people aware of our services, and provide leadership
in suicide prevention efforts in our communities.
